"SAYING GOODBYE TO MY HEROES!"

WHAT HEROES MEANT TO ME!

I am not sure I can find the words....

This will be the most difficult blog I will ever write, I was going through some difficult changes when I took on Heroes and it was just what I needed to boost my self worth and self esteem at the time...

What a Journey!

I remember the day my Makeup partner Lori and I went in to interview for Heroes.
I remember it like it was yesterday. What's funny is... I have the worst memory in the world, but when it comes to this show, I just cant seem to forget.

Anyhow, we were handed the pilot and were told to go watch it in a small room in the upstairs offices of Sunset Gower Stages in Hollywood, where one day it would soon become our new home to begin shooting the series you would all now know and come to love as, "HEROES!"

Lori and I turned off the light, popped it in the DVR and sat back and watched. We both began to size up the actors as we always do when taking a job, trying to figure out who would be the tough one and who was adorable, etc...

Laughing and poking at certain scenes and discussing it as we went along. When it was all through, we sat back and talked about what we had just watched.

I found the Pilot rather slow and boring to be honest and my favorite part about it was the painter (Isaac) we all now know and have come to love as Mr Santiago Cabrera. Yes, i thought he stole the show. I found him intriguing, Interesting, however; I myself love to paint obviously. I am an artist myself, so understandably so...right?

So after much discussion Lori thought this was the job for us. At the time, Lori and I were also being offered, Ugly Betty and Criminal Minds

So I have to say...I wasn't won over by what I just viewed, knowing we had other choices.

Needless to say, Lori being "The Boss" said this is it. So onward we went!

We went back to the office handed back the DVD, accepted the job, grabbed all our paperwork and began studying the characters and ideas behind Heroes and mapping out what would soon turn out to be four years of amazing challenges and memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.

Little did we also know, that very soon we would be running two full Makeup Trailers all over LA on completely different times and shooting schedules, with as many as 6 Makeup Artists and Hairdressers at times, in each one. Lori and I would soon be a separate team to make this show come to life for Season One and so on...

Throughout our first weeks on the production it took some time before we got to meet all our cast members for Heroes. The show had 12 main cast members and extensive story lines, so it took us a few months before we met them all and as I remember it, the cast didn't meet all of one another until almost a year later. They never crossed paths.
We always found it amazing.

My Cast:

Milo: I remember my first days with Milo, instant connection between us. He was very focused and a great listener. He waited patiently to take my chair and I knew he was going to be one of my actors who would demand my best work. "Homecoming" was our true test and from there we would be an inseparable team for Peter and Future Peter. Milo has a very special place in my heart, we did everything together for his characters and it was very rare, VERY RARE, that someone else would take care of him. I just wouldn't have it! I love my "Golden Child!" as you all know him. :)

Jack : Jack and I became rather close in our work on the episode you all know as "Company Man." He is and always will be very dear to me. He is a class act and an amazing Actor. Jack was a great conversationalist and 100% invested to the show. His sense of humor always kept me going. He kept me on my toes. I am proud to have him as my friend and not to just be called his Makeup Artist. I love him dearly.

Sendhil: He sat in my chair and we still laugh about it, I told him "You will be my Favorite Hero." I was so smitten by his beautiful face and he was such a doll. Never complained, at least not in the beginning. LOL! I Love Sendhil, he will be lucky if he survives in this world without the grasp of my hand attached to him somehow. Always a trooper and true professional. Oh and did I mention he is an amazing Tennis player as well? ;)

Zach: What can I say? He was always my shoulder. I think Zach listened to me a lot. We had many chats, a few downs, but mostly I became very attached to him as well and had many great conversations in between shooting scenes with him. A true talent and warm soul. He always could make me laugh with his tireless humor. So much fun we had with all the blood. Let's also not forget Noah, he was our Trailer Mascot. :) I love me "My Zach!"

Adrian: He was the glue that held us all together during the rough times in every ones corners. What a humorous guy he is as well. Most people would never believe what a great sense of humor Adrian possesses. Adrian is so rich with talent, he is warm, loving and full of heart. He is so intelligent to me at times its frightening. What a true pleasure it was just to watch him work. I will never forget all his charm. :)

Ashley: What a class act. She will be my friend in life forever. Not an actress to me, a true friend deep down. She genuinely always cared about every ones well being. Never selfish, always kind. I love her immensely!

Ali: Classy, Sexy, Beautiful, Fun, Sweet...Caring and always cared about her character, wants 100% and nothing less. Always a doll and forever generous.

Hayden: She would cry on cue and we would all cry. No one liked watching Hayden cry. Funny and crazy that girl. She kept us all on our toes. She was like the Tasmanian devil that spun through the trailer and left us all bug eyed. I will miss her sweet face.

Cris: Also 100% in everything she does. Loved her character and she truly cared always about all of her surroundings. A true pro and what talent. She should feel proud of herself and her accomplishments on Heroes. Awesome Lady!

Greg: Grunny Bunny to me, If it wasn't for his constant laughter on set, there may have been days we wouldn't have finished. Greg kept us all going. I don't think i have ever heard him complain or get mad. Greg is just a warm happy soul that everyone enjoys being around, myself included.

Masi: He never liked the makeup chair, he will tell you that, but always came prepared and ready for action. never had to wait on him and was always 100% pro. A doll and a talent rich. I will miss him dearly.

James Kyson Lee: Always Kind, Loving, warm hearted and thankful. Tried to always learn, learn, learn. Always a pro and a complete gentleman.

Jimmy Jean Louis: This man can dance, his moves would set the trailer on fire, we should have put in a sprinkler system. LOL! I Love this guy, awesome man! Easy going, free spirited, humble and ripped! LOL! Jimmy is a soul like no other!

Santiago: My heart Santiago, the reason I agreed to do the job. When he died, my Heroes world started its slow crumble. He has always kept in touch and stayed my friend. What a joy he is and what a pleasure to work on and with. I love him dearly and he can do no wrong.

Leonard: Doll of all dolls. Adorable, Loving, Sweet, Kind. Losing him was like losing the brother I never had. Leonard was always missed on the show and never forgotten.

The Others...so many, I could never name them all! But all of them brought something special to the show.

To all of u mentioned and not mentioned my heart!!!

Times I will never forget:

*My travels with the cast to Comic Con...I can still here the chant from backstage and the thump from the fans beneath their feet, waiting for the cast to come hit the stage. I was amazed and shocked. I felt like i had entered the backstage of a Beatles concert.

*My endless lunches with My Heroes on and off the lot, so many memories!

*Walking with my Cast to lunch only to sit under a Giant Heroes Billboard bigger than a bus with all of their faces on it. Watching people walk by and see them under the sign was genius! :)

*After wrap chats with Cast or Crew in the Makeup Trailer.

*The Fundraisers & Events.

*The International Tours.

*The Photo Shoots and Red Carpets.

*The Concerts Dixie Chicks, Band From TV, Prince.

*The Wrap Parties and Christmas Parties.

*Karaoke with the Cast in between setups in the Makeup Trailer.

*Potluck Fridays in the Makeup Trailer for our Cast.

*The endless pictures to grace our walls of our Cast and Crew in the Makeup Trailer. It became a museum point for everyone to bring there friends or family visiting the show for the day.

*The Espresso days of Adrian and Jack.

*The endless airbrushing of the boy's tattoo's.

*The endless pets of our cast in the Makeup Trailer.

*The excitement of all of us trying to get our hands on the next script.

*The famous slogans like "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World!"

*The football tosses in the parking lots or on locations.

*The Super Bowl Commercial shoot.

*The day our Action Figures came out, not to mention the books, comics, famous T-shirts, lunch pails, and paintings!

*The dancing of almost every Cast member to a song on the radio in the Makeup Trailer.

*The blood, cuts and Sylar slices? Who will ever forget those?

I could go on forever...

The laughter, the love, the long days...and now its just over & gone!!!

Not many shows get to take a ride like we did and what a great ride it was and will continue to be in all our memories for the rest of our lives.

Its like a dream ... did that all really happen in 4 years. Did it all really have to end?

As they say in show biz...The show must go on and so must we all!

I can't thank all of our fans enough for their endless support. The ones who stuck by us, even when the show got lost. Your invested time of writing, twittering, face booking, voting, calling, visiting, Comic-con, drawings, artistry, pumpkins, tattoo's, Easter eggs, Halloween costumes and anyway you reflected your love for our show. I can't say it enough a thousand times Thank you. Without the Love and Support from Fans like you our show wouldn't have survived passed a first season. Keeping any show on the air past a season is a challenge and you all made it happen for us.
Regardless of all the ups and downs...we all became a family and I will take with me all these Memories and cherish them forever.

They will always be my Heroes to me. :)

DR SEUSS: “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

PLEASE FORGIVE MY SPELLING ERRORS, PUNCTUATION, AND TIRELESS RAMBLE...It is late, the tears are much and I just have to let it end here. ;)

  4. I'm going to miss the show so much. It's been a wonderful, maddening, and mind blowing couple of years.

I wish you and the cast and crew the best in your future projects, but I will always wonder what exactly would have been if you got at least one more season to finish telling what was a very compelling story.

I at least hope I can see your delightful tweets still.

  5. Dear Wendi,

Thank you so much for sharing that piece of history with us. Thank you for being there for us the fans, and for opening your heart and your knowledge to us. Thank for letting us see how great these actors and actresses that we laughed and cried with truly are. You are a great soul.

I'm looking forward to the next steps of your career, and the stories you will regale us with.

  6. Wendi, while I was a bit late becoming a "Heroes" fan, it was your tweets and cheery good nature that made me enjoy the series even more. It is sad to see a 'family' break up, but it is clear that the memories will linger for a long time.

I hope that someone will create a scrapbook for all the photos in the makeup trailer, and that perhaps someday you and Lori might choose to share some of them- and the stories behind them- with the fans, either online or otherwise.

"Heroes" might be over, but I know there will be new things for you on the horizon. I will continue to follow you on Twitter and read your blogs- it is a peek into a world I would otherwise never see, except for names on the credits. Thank you so much for sharing your world with us. I send you my best wishes to you and yours. And I look forward to seeing what is next in your career.

Thank you for passing along hellos & worries along to them as well. Time will heal all wounds. I consider you a good friend. I hope we can eventually sit down at a Starbucks one day & laugh over tall tales.

  11. Thank you Wendi for all your hard work and dedication (and DMs!!!!) :) You opened up a whole new dimension to Heroes for me, and I have now come to understand better just how insanely much work, blood (in bottles or otherwise), sweat and tears go in to making a TV show of this caliber.

I'm very sad to see Heroes go, but I look forward to following your future adventures in TV-land. You are made of Awesome! :)

  12. Thanks for this goodbye, Wendy.
Heroes was an awesome show for me. I started to watch it in the Summer of 2007, and suddenly, I was part of the fandom! and that was the first time it was happening to me! It had a place in my heart! Like other shows I love, it will always be special.
It was so fantastic to watch in our screens how awesome stories developed. I think that ideas like these have been in books, comics or films, but never, in such a deepness, in TV. I suddenly fell in love with Peter, Isaac, Eden, Hiro, Claire and later Sylar (when he arrived) and I totally adored and adore HRG from the first minute. I've been here in the low and high points, and I have enjojed this wonderful travel.
And the most awesome thing has been 'being' part of the show, commenting, supporting and above all, reading the tweets, comments, blogs, watching the interviews and more and more, like your photos! we want to see the complete gallery! Meething other fangirls and fanboys.... It was like if you were part of my friends. And that's so great, I'll never forget it! :)
I wish you could come back, but as everyone knows, these things doesn't depend on us. So I'll always remember the good things and all this fantastic journey.
I link you a beautiful song as farewell, not written for this kind of farewells :), but which works

I just want to wish you the best for you, cast and crew. I hope to see you again in very important things soon! and together if it would be possible!
Bye, bye (and hope to see you soon)

It was awesome. I will always love Heroes, my best friend and I are going to watch season 1 to 3 on DVD this week. ;) (season 4 is going to be aired in fall here in Germany)

Oh and could you tell us more about Adrian's and Jack's Espresso days? LOL Sounds funny!

    Thank you so much!! <3

It was wonderful of you to share all those wonderful Heroes photos with us, and give us a glimpse of what was going on behind the scenes!

I'm sad that Heroes is ending, and I'm sure it's very hard for you to see the members of this little family go their separate ways. I wish you much luck for the future, and I'll continue following your adventures!

  16. This was written from the heart, Wendi. It's not a fan writing, but someone who was deeply involved with the show and the people. And damn it, I started crying again. Most jobs are just that, jobs, with a little "j". But when you can take something from it, it's a treasure indeed. I know you will keep those fabulous memories and experiences all your life. You've been fortunate enough to meet some great people who will always be in your life, and maybe, lucky enough to work with you again. :-)

My funniest memory was when it was very very cold in SoCal. You were out working late and in the cold, so cold, you could barely feel your fingers. We were giving you our local weather reports, and you gently rebuked us, that while we were safely ensconced in our warm homes, you were out in that freezing cold, working. I had to laugh (sorry), thinking, uh oh, Wendi is peeved with us.

I will be waiting (not for long I hope) for your good news that you will be regaling us with your new adventures. May fortune shine her bright spotlight on you always, Wendi! And thanks! ;-)

  17. Thank you for everything. You were always awesome, always nice to fans. It's been a pleasure following you and I'll definitely keep doing that. :) I wish you luck, I know you'll become a part of another awesome show in no time.

  18. Wendi,
Thank you so much for all you've shared with us over the years. And as heartbreaking it is for us fans to see this show we love come to an end, how much more so it must be for you. Thank you for even sharing that with us.

I fell in love with this show because the characters intrigued me, and I liked the story. I stayed in love because of people like you, and the rest of the cast and crew. You made us feel like part of the family, and I thank you for that.

I know you and all the rest of my Heroes will go on to do amazing things, and I can't wait to see what those things are. Best wishes for a beautiful future.

  19. Thanks for sharing that with us and your life through Twitter. I've never had a show captivate me as much as Heroes did. Every aspect intrigued me and would leave my friends and I talking about each episode until the next one. The storyline and characters were so rich, and as impossible as the abilities may have been, we could always relate to the characters. I appreciate you sharing your life with us and your work. Much love and prayer in the next chapter of your life! Can't wait to see where we'll see you next!

  20. Wendi, your words to your cast mates, friends and fan were really beautiful. I have done acting and have been with a close knit group of people for 4 years spending day in and day out with each other, and while we have our ups and downs, not being with them every day is hard.

Thank you for all of your kindness, your tweets, pictures, your kind DM's. You helped me and gave me advice on my move to LA without even knowing me from Eve. :)

The thing is, Heroes was not just a TV show, the cast and crew were probably some of the NICEST people I have ever encountered. I have gotten to speak with you through twitter and meet Zach, Adrian, Jack, Hayden, Masi, Christine and Grunny and each of them were gracious and kind. I know I felt invested on what was going on and wished you all nothing but the best. I hope there is a final wrap up movie, but if not I think I am okay with ending it with Claire being brave, Peter finding a friend in Emma and Sylar trying to pick up the pieces from his past transgressions.

I wish you all nothing but success and you will all always be my favorite cast and crew and while I won't get my wish to work on the Heroes set one day, maybe I will be able to work with people I admire and love, much like you got to and wouldn't that be amazing? Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

  29. Beautifully said. I have appreciated you so much on twitter and will continue to do so... we'll never thank you enough for your contributions to one of the most truly remarkable shows ever to grace the airwaves. I'm so sorry that it had to turn out this way; like you, the show came along when things hadn't been so great for a while, and it not only brought me immense joy and camraderie with an international cadre of fellow fans, but reminded me of what I do best... and the same is true for you. Always keep that truth close to your heart; this is what gives life its strength and resilience. "In the end, all that matters is love."

    I wish I had Twitter since S1.

It is a real pleasure read your tweets. Your daily phrase, on this day in history and the pics and back stage story of one of my iconic shows. Heroes.

You have No idea how thankful I am for this opportunity to get to know you and how silly I look in front of my tv wondering "Did Wendi did that make up?" lol you know sometimes I asked you about it. Is fun. This blog entry was your ultimate share for me. I felt the joy of your work and the long nights. All of you are amazing.

But nothing ends, and as Heroes chapter closes you still go on. And me, as a friend/fan with you. I wish you luck in everything and a life with success.

  37. My first thought after reading this was, "wow". Great blog, Wendi. It's very sad that such a great show has finished. The first time I watched heroes season 1, was when season 2 was about to air in Oz, xmas time 07. I was not that interested and not in a great place mentally, suicidal infact, at that time. Anyhow, a friend loaned me a copy of season 1 and I was hooked. I watched the entire season in 3 days, and then watched season 2, when it aired. Each episode gave me an outlet and interest, at a time when I had none, and also when I had alot of internal pain. For each vol continued to out do the other with the story lines and the ending given was effective. So thankyou Wendi and your heroes for having such a positive effect on my life. Thankyou, Luv Cherie.

  38. What can I say?
Little do we as fans know about what happens behind the scenes of such a great show like Heroes. Thanks to you, you showed us this amazing world. Sharing all those pics with us and your stories, I can't thank you enough for that. Here in Germany, there is still one season left. But I will miss Heroes. I will miss the times when I sit in front of my TV, waiting for the latest ep and when it's on, no one is allowed to distract me. Not even my boyfriend. And I would sit there thinking "Oh, a lot of blood, great job, wendi" or "Todd twittert about this" and although I have never met you all in person it felt like I was part of the Heroes-family. :)
So, thank you. Not just Wendi. But everyone who made this show. The actors, the staff. everyone.
    xoxo

I know people would say its only a TV show but how can we say that when we’ve had such amazing contact with Wendi, James and the rest of the cast and crew. You’ve made it more then a show; you’ve all made it an experience. I’m gonna miss that.

The show has such an amazing message of hope and optimize that really hooks your heart at the get go. Thank you all for bring that to people when they needed it most in the world.

Thanks to the show I’ve made some wonderful friends on 9th Wonders, via Twitter and Facebook. I’ll be forever grateful for that.

    Love you guys!

  40. I honestly don't know what to say. I followed Heroes since it began and loved it more than most things in life...except othe people.

I am very sad to see it go, but it's people like you and me who it will live on through.

Thanks for making this blog! It was so nice to read. :) Goodbye, Heroes!

(Oh, I saw you were close to Santiago Cabrera! Isaac was my fave until he died. I was sad. After he was gone, Maya was my fave. Dania is so pretty and she did a great job as Maya! I think Santiago did a wonderful job as Isaac, too!)

  41. Greetings from a fan of Heroes and your work all the way from the KSA, miss Lynn. I am an artist myself, so I appreciate how real you make everything look on the show.

Growing up with two brothers, I am very into sci-fi and fantasy and immidiately fell in love with Heroes. It has been quite a journey indeed. I was heartbroken when NBC decided to cancel the show, but all good things must come to an end eventually, I guess.

The show was special. The characters, story, and comic-book like feel was exceptional. One of my fondest memories of Heroes is when I bought the first graphic novel and "Saving Charlie" book. I devoured them within a couple of days. My favorite characters were Hiro and Sylar. Though both at the opposite ends of the poll, they were both very interesting and unique. Their paths, internal and external, were the hardest to tread, I think; even more than Peter Petrelli's.

I wish you and the cast and crew all the best in life.I am sure the future holds great oppurtunities for you all. Salam miss Lynn.

P.S: If don't mind, of course, and you see Zachary Quinto anytime soon, May you tell him that he is an amazing person and actor, that I highly esteem him, and that he owes me a date if I ever get back to LA ;P?

I would be honored if you followed me on twitter, btw. It is the same name as my blogger profile, reka85.

  42. I especially love that this blog exists when I'm sleep-deprived at 4.30am and remember yet another (vaguely) show related thing I'm extremely grateful for (even if it's a month late). In relation to the show itself there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said far more eloquently on this page already, and so I'll simply just co-sign and thank each and every one from the Heroes cast and crew for putting so much time and effort into the show.

But there's one more thing, namely the birth of one of my favourite expressions in the world, ever. I cannot imagine life without it. It's from Jack Coleman, who used it in a written statement he released (I can't remember where, but maybe on his TWoP blog) after some paparazzi photos from the set were posted online. I think it was from the filming of season two, but my memory is subpar so I'm not entirely sure. Anyway. In one of the photos, if you squinted hard enough, the angle sort of made it look like Jack and Hayden were kissing. Of course, that was enough to spark rumours some places on the internet, so Jack wrote a short letter stating that the rumours were ridiculous and far from the truth. He ended the letter with an absolutely priceless sentence that is of perfect use in so many situations that I can't even begin to count them all. It's now the herpes of my vocabulary - it keeps coming back. Of course it's far more welcome than herpes, but I digress.

"Please go no further with this nonsense".

Thank you, Jack Coleman, for one of the most amazing, concise, argument-winning expressions I have ever heard. I want it engraved on my tombstone when I die.
